I’ve written so much on this blog about transphobia – all about the TERFs and their campaign of hate towards trans people. But while they might shout the loudest, it’s important to remember that these bigots are a tiny minority. Most people these days seem to be very accepting towards trans people. These are known as trans allies.

I’m at home nursing a hangover today, but I don’t mind at all because yesterday Pride came to town – and it was beyond brilliant. It was one of the best days of my life.
I live in a little town in the Midlands. To my visitors from the USA (so, most of you then!) that’s the bit between the North and the South of England – the bit with no identity whatsoever. But while the Midlands has no identity, the town itself certainly does. It’s a grand old place, steeped in history, with really friendly people, a decent little football club a belting cinema, wonderful pubs and restaurants, I could go on. But it needs a rainbow-coloured shot in the arm – and, 50 years after Stonewall – that’s exactly what it’s getting, with its first LGBT+ Pride event. HOORAH!
Yesterday was a day of highs and lows. The lows involved being misgendered and my pal being called “Sir”. But the highs far outweighed them.
Breasts, thighs, legs, skin! No, it’s not which parts of a roast chicken you fancy with your Sunday dinner – it’s some of the bits of me which have changed since starting MTF HRT one year ago!
This time three weeks ago, it was Easter Monday, and my head looked like it had been wearing a Crown of Thorns for a few days – I’d just had my hair transplant!
So after deciding I might need a hair transplant, it was time for a spot of due diligence. There are some horror stories of transplants gone wrong out there – and I didn’t want to become the next one.
I’ve decided to have a hair transplant – and it’s tomorrow. This time tomorrow, I’ll be in surgery, with my head literally cut open. It’s no easy ride, this transition lark.
The web is full of thousands of stories of transitions and how trans women (with one or two exceptions) feel so much happier for evolving into their true selves. There are fewer stories of that period where you’ve left your male life behind – but you’re not quite “all woman”. So here’s mine.
