I’ve had two main fears about coming out as trans. One is jibes from the beer-swilling men’s men down the football ground and the pub. The other is the reaction of people I work with – will they still want to be my clients? Yesterday, I met a chap who inspired me totally to take that final step.

My first hen night as a trans girl – clucking ace!
I’ve been transgender for decades, and one of my main ambitions for soooooo many years has been to go on a hen night – to spend a night with the girls drinking, dancing and cavorting. And, on Saturday night, that’s exactly what I did!
My day dancing with the Birmingham Royal Ballet

Telling the parents: update
Well, maybe I was a bit too hasty with my last post about my parents’s concerns over my transition. I’ve since met them – twice – and I think we’re all in a better place now.

Just got off the phone to my sister – and it appears there are major concerns about my transition from my parents – and my brother-in-law. Great!
My parents still love me – I’ve not been disowned!
Well, I left the last post on something of a cliffhanger, didn’t I? I’d sent my parents the letter announcing that I’m transgender but, at the time of of writing that post, I was getting anxious as I’d had no reply. I needn’t have worried. All was fine – all is fine. Here’s how things unfolded.
Telling my parents I’m transgender
bWell, telling people I’m trans is getting easier and easier. I told another lady at Slimming World – and showed her a couple of photos on my phone. It was as easy as saying “Ooooh, I’ve just got back from Greece – here’s a picture of me on the beach!” She was so positive and said I looked so happy. So why is it so hard to tell your parents?!
Being brave and coming out
So, so much has changed in the past week, since my first gender clinic appointment. As well as telling more male friends about me, I’ve been to dinner at a busy restaurant “en femme” and re-evaluated where I’m going with all of this. I’ve evolved. A lot.
